Ravesh Sukhnandan wants to build robots

Meet a young Belizean who wants to build robots in the future. He is 19-year-old Ravesh Sukhnandan, a graduate of Edward P. Yorke High School in Belize City. “From I was a young child, I liked making things and understanding how things worked. Like many of my (male) peers, I grew up watching anime, including the ever-popular Dragon Ball Z. My favorite TV show, however, involved the ‘Gundam’ franchise, which, as you may guess, involved giants fighting robots. This sparked a fascination with how they worked, how they were made, how they operated. This continued my fascination with technology and machines,” stated Ravesh.

Jorge Espat’s SJC presidency

The appointment was announced on Sunday morning, June 5, at the Commencement Exercises for St. John’s College Junior College, where Mr. Espat has been a lecturer in economics for a few years now. Kremandala news people thought the story was so big that they immediately contacted the KREM Radio newsroom, which broke the story on the 12:30 p.m. KREM Radio news that afternoon. This newspaper then carried the story in our mid-week issue, published on Tuesday morning, June 7.

Andy Palacio Lecture by Dr. Joseph Palacio

The 2nd Andy Palacio lecture was delivered today at the Image Factory gallery by Dr. Joseph Palacio one of Belize’s most respected anthropologists and intellectual. Yasser Musa, director of the Image Factory welcomed the gathered with the words“today we reflect, recognize and reflect on Andy Palacio and look forward to expanding the art space.” Roy Cayetano, president of the Andy Palacio Foundation introduced the distinguished lecturer giving an overview of Dr. Palacio’s professional and academic work. He pointed out that Dr. Palacio made a shift in his life moving from the urban life of Belize City to full time living to in his home village Barranco.

Belize’s First Teaching Services Commission

The education sector in Belize comprises almost five thousand teachers – at all levels and the Ministry Of Education holds that regulation and administration of teaching services isn’t at an optimal standard.
And that’s why the first ever Teaching Services Commission was established. This team is commissioned to champion the warapy forward for an improved education system. Minister of Education, Patrick Faber addressed the issue of corporal punishment in schools and the signing of the first two memoranda of understanding for the amalgamation of four schools into two.
