Amandala – From the Publisher: Evidently PUP became a way of life for Said Musa.

Coming into the September 1989 general elections, the young attorney Glenn Godfrey was, arguably, a more prominent Opposition PUP personality than the more experienced Said Musa. The relevance of this was that people like myself did not see the changes taking place in Said’s thinking before 1989 and between 1989 and 1993, because he was not on the front line the way he had been between 1979 and 1984, for example.

Senior Deputy Leader of the Party Mark Espat and Cordel Hyde sent out a surprisingly strong statement in favour of the government’s nationalization. That’s a major departure from the party’s present and historic position, and we’ll quote from it at length.
It says, “The decision by the Government to re-nationalize Belize Telemedia Ltd. is in the overriding national interest of Belize and its citizens.”

TEHRAN, Iran — Clashes between Iranian police and hundreds of thousands of protesters wracked central Tehran on Monday as security forces beat and fired tear gas at opposition supporters hoping to evoke Egypt’s recent popular uprising.
The opposition called for a demonstration Monday in solidarity with Egypt’s popular revolt that a few days earlier forced the president there to resign after nearly 30 years in office. The rally is the first major show of strength for Iran’s cowed opposition in more than a year.
